The darn subtitles won't go away

If you are on version 10.01 of the firmware then the majority of the subtitle problems have been resolved. But just in case they still plague you then select a subtitle language that will never occur - we suggest Zulu. This is how you do it.

The instructions are slightly different depending on what version of firmware the player is using.
To find out which version of firmware you have installed click here

Version 10.01

With no disk in player and power on
Press Setup
Press Enter
Down arrow until SUBTITLE is highlighted
Press Enter
Down arrow until you see a 4 digit number
Press Enter
Now type in 9085 - which is the code for ZULU.
Press Enter
Press Setup
That should be it

For Non 10.01 Versions

With no disk in player and power on
Press Setup
Press Enter
Down arrow until SUBTITLE is highlighted
Press Enter
Down arrow until you see ZULU
Press Enter
Press Setup
That should be it

Can't update from firmware A9.48E-15E20-13-0927

If you have the following components in your machine
then there isn't a fix currently available for you - sorry we are working on it

U4 = Tiny12 instead of Tiny11
U5=CS98010 instead of LS5282
DVD Drive=DP026D

I Can't downgrade from firmware 10.01

For the time being you'll need to use Bullfrogs ISO images located here

How do I check which version of firmware I am on

With no disk in player and power on
Press Setup
Down arrow 4 times until OTHERS is highlighted
Press Enter
Down arrow until Version is highlighted
Press Enter
You will now see the version
Press setup to exit

I get REGION CODE VIOLATION when I try to play a DVD

Your players region is not set the same as the region on the DVD suggest you read on down to see how to make your player region free.

Does the 528 Play Regional Coding Enhancement (RCE) disks?

Yes it can but you will probably want to make the player region free to do this

I want to make my player region free

This procedure should enable your player to play DVDs from all regions

With player powered on
Press Open/Close so drawer is open
Press Stop
Press 3 3 5 8 and fast forward button (i.e. x2/x4/x8 button)
You should now see manufacturer reset - region code xx (where xx = 0 for 10.01 or blank for all A9.48 versions)
Go ahead and use your player

The DVD-R's I make won't play in the AD-L528

The Player is very fussy about the case of the letters (i.e. it's case sensitive)
Please ensure thet the VIDEO_TS folder and all files contained therein are produced in upper case
The following disks have been tried and are known to work in a AD-L528 machine
with 10.01 firmware and a DM126D loader with REV1.7B firmware

Datasafe Classic - written at 2 speed - not marked that it can.
FWS - written at single speed - rated to write at double speed.
"White Label" brand - Greeny blue label - written at single speed.
Techno Brand - White Label

I want to access the hidden system 1999 Menu

To access the system menu

Press open/close so that drawer is open
Press Stop
Press 1 9 9 9
Menu will now display See below for description of each item

What do the various items in the hidden system 1999 Menu system mean/do?

Some options/items look embossed you can down arrow to that item and press enter and then change it's value using either the arrow keys in the case of Region Code or by using numbers.Press enter again for player to accept value.

Region Code either 1-6 or ALL Shows which region disks the player will play
OP-PROH ON 0000 Stands for Operator Prohibit - This would possibly allow skipping of Copyright notices at start of DVD's if we knew which code to enter
Patenal PWD either a number or NO PASS This is the 4 digit code that you've entered in the child lock function in the standard setup menu.Or it's set to NO PASS if one isn't setup
Parental C.C 8583 Sorry Never figured this one out
DVD-ROM REV 1.7B

This is the firmware of the DVD Drive itself

Will be blank if Version 10.01 firmware is in the AD-L528 itself or if you have a machine which has aborted updating on it's own while upgrading to 10.01

MACRO VISION CS4955 MV-04 In theory this can also be CS4954 but we've not managed to activate it.Basically it's the level of Macrovision apparently selected/supported by the Internal Video encoder.

How do I turn off Macrovision?

You can only do this temporarily in software if you have 10.01 firmware installed in the player. (For procedure to check firmware click here)

Start Main feature film playing on DVD as normal.
Now press stop
Press setup
Press Enter
Press Enter
Press Up
Press Enter
Press Up
Press Enter
Press Setup
Press Play

What this did was change your Video Output Format from PAL to NTSC and back again or vice versa.
